SCMI Journey Towards Centenary 1912-2012
Student Christian Movement of India is nearing 100 years of it’s challenging journey. This ecumenical journey has crossed many milestones and boundaries.
The history is playing a vital role in human life. Through history we are developing ourselves, we learn a lot ourselves. Our Christian faith based on the active interaction of God with humanity through out history. It is the history of Liberation from bondages. We believe that “history” is liberative history. Who ever involved in that history they are called as God’s people because the liberative mission is God’s Mission.
As people of God, came together and started a movement called Student Christian Movement at 1912 in India for God’s Mission. In the beginning it was very few in number but now it has grown and it is going to celebrate its centenary. The movement has lot of students’ history and movements within itself. The movement has pre and post colonization experiences, pre and post independence experience and pre and post emergency period experience. The movement still finding the way to overcome the Globalized and liberalized economy. But the movement’s journey always forwards the justice, the mission of God.
In 2012 SCMI is celebrating its Centenary “this celebration is dedicated to ECO – JUSTICE. Our development policies are torturing the creation of God. Now the creation of God is crying for liberation. In this crucial time the people of God should take the step towards justice in this regard. Ecological Justice is inclusive and directly connected with the Women’s liberation or feminism which is a concern in SCM for decades.
This is the right time SCMI is calling you to act for God’s Mission. Local units and regions can organize programmes marking of SCMI’s centenary with the focus of ECO – Justice.
